Professional Teeth Whitening
One of the professional/cosmetic teeth whitening exercises includes crowning. In crowning much of the original tooth is trimmed to make place for the crown. Since much of the original tooth is lost in this process, it method of teeth whitening is not preferred. The most common method of whitening teeth for cosmetic reasons, therefore, is through teeth bleaching.
This method of professional/cosmetic teeth whitening works better on yellowed teeth. Quite interestingly, the cosmetic dentists tend to focus their efforts on upper teeth rather than the bottom teeth, because the lower set is usually hidden and is overshadowed by the upper teeth and the lower lip. While bleaching both the upper and the lower sets of teeth, the lower teeth should be bleached after completion of bleaching process for the upper set.
To do professional/cosmetic teeth whitening the dentist first separates the teeth with a thin rubber sheet like one that is used in windows, door handles and other accessories on a car while re-spraying it. Outer surface of the tooth is then coated with an oxidizing agent and it is exposed to heat and light for about half an hour. The number of teeth that needs professional/cosmetic teeth whitening varies according to the state of your teeth; and this process can take about four to six treatments. While doing cosmetic teeth whitening, sometimes bleaching agent leaks onto the gums in odd places causing feeling of slight burning sensation. If it happens, you may point out to the Dentist. There is, however, no necessity to be sacred or panic. For a short-while the gum may turn white but within about a week’s time it will heal well.
